My name is Nancy Armstrong-Sánchez. As an as asthmatic with a back injury, I identify multiply with invisible disability. As an asthmatic whose childhood doctor refused to diagnose beyond “hypochondriac,” I find that I fight as much with internalized ableism as I do with systemic oppression of disabled folx, although this has lessened significantly since finding vibrant disability communities, especially those in on-line spaces. Trained as a linguist, I am particularly interested in conversations at the intersection of language and disability. I consider myself an adjunct-activist. I try to fill up as many of the academic spaces as I am afforded with disability conversations. I created a DS class for my campus, I created and continue to organize a disability & social justice week on my campus, and I am Co-Chair of the faculty union's Disability Caucus. Currently, my interests involve accessible protest spaces & caretaking while disabled. I’m honored to be a part of this group.
